The hummingbird's wings hammered their way through the air. The streaks of red, gold and green looked as though they were swimming across its streamlined body. The hummingbird skimmed the glassy azure water, frightening a pair of salmon swimming upstream. Their pastel pink scales glimmered in the water and sparkled in its many ripples. That’s when it happened. The sleek black arrow lashed through the air, rotating as it found it’s mark in one of the salmon’s eyes.
The second salmon stared at it’s partner in despair before swimming for it’s life. It had only swum an inch in it’s attempt to escape before another arrow split it’s skull, jutting halfway out the other side.
A tall figure approached. This figure had a masculine shape although it was slightly shorter. His torn, coal-grey jeans sagged as he waded gracefully through the water, smirking as he went to retrieve his prize. He raised the pair of salmon in the air with triumph, removing the cumbersome arrows from the fish’s flesh.
A Screech owl with a skull on its chest the owl was perched on a rose two eyes with raven wings flew next to the Screech owl.. He wore a plain black hoodie except for the thin light weight armour plating on the hood which was almost invisible. The hood shaded the top half of his face. He picked up the first salmon and placed it in a game bag which was slung across his back. He then reached and picked up the second. Making sure to wipe the blood off of his arrows. He then waded over to the opposite bank of which he had came. And collected some root. Sparing one which he popped into his mouth. By now the sun was setting and he decided to call it a day.
Slinging his bow across his back he waded back to the other bank, he simply rolled down his sleeves pulled up his hood and sprinted up an overhanging branch. His bare feet made no sound as he leaped sprinted and seemed to glide across the canopy. His black clothing blended into the leaves and branches. If you noticed him for a second he was gone in the next. The Tree line came to a halt at a small clearing on a sloped hill. In the middle was a fire pit to the side a structure made from logs and branches. it was a simple triangular frame with split logs along the back to keep out the rain. This was were he kept all his supplies. There were woven baskets full of herbs and spices, some of which had come from the small vege-patch at a far corner of the camp. There was fish in containers filled with chilled water from the river which he changed everyday. Next to that sat a Canister full to the brim with fresh drinking water. He set down his game bag by one of the logs that he had rolled over here to use as seating, not that there was ever anyone to sit with. He collected a flint and steel from one of the containers and some fresh firewood and kindling. He sat down at the side of the fire pit and began to light a fire.
A branch snapped to the left of him. The faint noise of heavy breathing found its way into his campsite. He doused the small inferno and grabbed his bow and game bag. He Pulled up his hood and followed the noise. Whoever it was couldn't hear him but he could definitely hear this person.
A tiny light flickered out of the corner of his eye. A flame…?
Mich ran! Her boots making alll the noise in the world. Caleb clutched his Short sword ready to stop their pursuers. Danny was trailing at their feet. Her chest heaved as she gasped for air. The had been running for days. The 'Ronhor' had caught their scent in Grimshaw. And since then the trio had been running from them. She looked up Mich and Caleb were gone. She was still running when a rock from nowhere tripped her up. As she fell she tried to put her arm out to brace her fall with no such luck. With her knees grazed and her arm bent at an odd angle she turned to face the aproaching Ronhor. There were two of them. About nine feet tall with black mottled fur that covered their back their legs were covered in scales. A triangular scale covered each one of their knees. The two forearms that belonged to the Ronhor Were lined in thick muscles like steel cords. While the third wasn't entirely weak but at the same time wasn't as strong as the two forearms. The third arm potruded from the back on the left side of the spiky frill that lined their spine which half of was visible. The hand attached to the third arm of a Ronhor has long jagged claws about five inches long and can easily pierce human flesh. They have little to no neck and on top of that is the head. A Ronhors jaws sticks out. Its two bottom kanines Are larger than the top ones and are about an inch and a half. It has no shape of a nose. Where the nose should have been the skin was tight over the bone leaving two gaping holes like what you would see on a skeleton. Two large wolfish ears are set back in their head behind the temples. The wear lioncloths and occasionly some have the decensy to put a shirt on. Apart from that they wear cow skin leather boots. The first Ronhor that was currently after Mich held two single bladed axes in his hands. While the other carried a two metre long two handed broad sword. Sweat trailed down their red skin. And their chests heaved up and down. Mich was about to reach down for her dagger and say a final prayer to her father when a black arrow lodged itself right between the Ronhors eyes his mouth opened and a second arrow found its way into the back of his mouth. The other Ronhor look over in horror when its vision was blurred because of the smoke that had appeared from nowhere. A dark shape leapt down from the trees and into the smoke a few moments later the smoke cleared and the Ronhor fell to the ground with some very large wounds in its neck. Its eyes still opened wide in terror.
Bang!!!
A large shape fell from the trees. It landed on its knee. leaning on one hand its other pointed backwards. For a second Mich could have sworn there was a blade coming from the shapes sleeve. Then it disappeared. The figure was a boy from what Mich could tell. He wore a simple black hood and jeans. A black bow was slung across his back next to a quiver full of black arrows that matched the ones that had killed the Ronhor.
The boy was standing now. Mich couldn't see his eyes because his hood cast a shadow over them.
"Can you walk?" He asked, his voice was quiet and gentle.
"I think i've broken my arm. Who are you?" Mich replied.
He frowned.
"What about your leg? you tripped on a rock didn't you."
Not Michs finest moment.
"Here put your arm over my shoulder" he gestured for her to take his hand.
Mich ignored his hand and tried to stand. A white searing pain streamed through her arm, blood seeped from her knees. She buckled. The boy caught her before she could reach the ground. He felt cold but she was glad to not have to support her own weight.
"Come on, i've got a camp not far from here."
She coughed and stumbled. And dragged him down with her. He managed to break his fall, she on the other hand was not so successful.
"Can you carry me?"
Mich could already feel herself blushing. He nodded, and Mich put her arm over his shoulder and he supported her from under her knees. He pulled off his hood to reveal his face. He had brown hair. His hair was rough and messy. His eyes were sea green.
Caleb ran over to her. He gave her a huge bearhug. and asked her if she was alright. Mich nodded as best she could. But the boy shook his head.
"Shes broken her arm and she lost a lot of blood" the boy reported.
"Danny can you work some of your Apollo magic?" Caleb asked.
"To tired" her voice cracked and she fell into the mud snoring.
"Set her down on the bedroll"
The boy who had saved her went over to a small wooden structure and collected a first-aid kit from a plastic container. He leant down next to her.
Moonlight shone through the branches and the an owl started its midnight hunting song. Caleb and Danny were snoring. next to each other in the the sleeping bags that they had borrowed from the strange boy. Mich was lying down on what must have been the boys sleeping bag. Because he was somewhere up in the canopy asleep or keeping watch. She turned over and tried to fall asleep. But every time she closed her eyes she saw the ugly red faces of the Ronhor. She shivered. It must have been about two degrees. Her lips were cracked and her throat was sore. She could hear running water some where near which meant water. Maybe she could send an Iris message to camp and see if the could send someone to pick them up. She didn't like the forest. It was to eerie and lonely. Oh how she longed to be sitting by the magical campfire with her friends. Toasting s'mores and singing with the rest of the campers. Her arm was itching and the splint was too tight. She emerged from the bushes to find a river. It must have been five am by now. She spotted the boy crouching on the bank one of his hands was in the water. It happened in an instant. His arm flicked up and a dark shape flew strait towards Mich something wet hit her in the face and she yelped. The boy turned. As quick as lightning an arrow was notched and aimed at her head. He released and everything went black. Mich opened her eyes.
Caleb was shaking her.
"Hurry up, wake up Mich! breakfast is ready." caleb shook her again for good measure.
There was no fire. But Danny was already biting into something pink. Being a daughter of Ares that girl would eat almost anything but even for her what she was holding didn't look very appetizing. Caleb was looking slightly green. But was biting into Another pink thing. The boy handed her a salmon. A full fresh salmon.
"Take a bite” he offered.
"Umm.... Aren't you going to cook it first?"she replied.
"Ever had sushi before?"
"Yes" Mich replied feeling as green as caleb.
"This is basically the same." To prove his point he took a large bite out of the stomach of the salmon.
"Besides if you cook it you lose a lot of the nutrition."
Okay Meg was definitely going to throw up now.
"Not a fan of sushi note taken"
He reached into his game bag and pulled out some kind of root. And what looked like some grass.
"Here, the grass should ease you stomach. The root is called Katniss root."
"Dont worry, i'll get us some venison for dinner, and don't worry we won't eat that raw."
The boy smiled.
"So whats your name?" Caleb asked him.
"Tom" he replied
"And yours?" he gestured to them all.
Caleb pointed the trio out.
"Danny, Mich, and i'm Caleb"
"So now we're all introduced i think we should start getting ready to go hunting”
Tom walked over to a small wooden structure and pulled out three curved longbow’s.
“You’ve all used a bow before?” he asked.
