My mind was blank. My hands had a mind of their own and shook from nerves. The plant was so innocent I didn’t know what to do with it. The leaves on the trees shook around me making rustling sounds. The soft breeze cooled and calmed me down a bit, which helped control my nerves. There was a sweet smell about me, from the flowers. The bees wove in and out of the flowers, looking like they were doing a special plant dance, celebrating the growth of this plant, I was holding with care. I stared with amazement, as my eyes started to go blurry from concentration. Everything around me was one big bundle of questions that needed to be answered, but this plant, all the questions were already answered as I held it.
‘All things happen for a reason’ came into my head. ‘If all things happen for a reason then why won’t the reason for finding this plant happen right now?’ Was the only question I could really think of. I know it isn’t a proper question, but it still needed answering. My patience was wearing, and I just wanted to drop the plant and run off, but something inside me made me hold onto it and stay put. ‘All things happen for a reason.’ I stood there, my arms aching from holding the plant. Why was I still standing there? Why was I still holding the plant? Why?
The plant had turned into a bundle of questions by the time I figured it out. All things do happen for a reason. My mind went back to last night’s news. ‘The weather!’ I cried. It was going to be snowy, so the plant wanted me to take it into the warmth overnight. I grinned with amazement. ‘How did a plant know that?’
