“ Goodnight mum, I love you.” I said as I gave a delicate kiss on her cheek. I put on my pink and blue striped pyjamas, well they were once pink and blue, now they’re grey and black. I tip toed into the bathroom hoping not to wake Joanne up. “ Screech! Screech!” my fluro toothbrush went, but now it was just a light grey. Tip toeing back to my my room, I gave a big sigh stretching my arms up nearly touching the ceiling. My feet entered my grey sheets as I climbed up onto my bed snuggling up in the white blanket, hoping that tomorrow will be a colourful day filled with joy. That was what I’ve been hoping everyday since I was six.
The grey sunlight travelled through the curtains into my room giving me a wake up call. I gave a loud yawn then finally opened my eyes hoping to see the colour pink. But no luck, there was never luck no matter how much I hoped. Waking up from my slumber, I walked like a zombie, down the dark grey spiral stairs. “ Morning mum, no luck with the colour today either” I sighed.
“Melissa, don’t worry about that too much, colour will come back. We just weren’t lucky today.” Mum replied. A shimmering tear cascaded down my eye, where are you colour? After having grey cereal, I put on my favourite pink and purple dress, actually it was grey and black. “Mum, I’m going to Samantha’s house, we were planning to make a bird feeder for the park”
“Ok, but be home by 5" mum replied. I locked the door, pulled up my hoodie and walked along the path that lead to the mall, the complete opposite direction from Sam's house. I felt like there was a gunshot in my chest when I lied to mum, she always trusted me. The mall was the last place I needed to look to see if I could find one speck of colour, colour mattered to me a lot but I just didn't know why.
When I arrived at my destination, to my surprise, a dark, shadowy figure gliding across the concrete. Something was in the figures hands and it was pink! Yes, pink! The hairs on my arms raised and adrenaline rushed through my body, this could be it. "Hey you!!!" I bellowed out to the figure as I sprinted. I saw a blue twinkle in his eyes before he started to run away from me, I had a good feeling he was hiding something from me. “Please don’t run away! I just need to ask you why you have colour with you? I can’t find any colour but, you’re surrounded. Please tell me” I begged. Suddenly, the figure slowly turned around and amazed me. He was wearing a bright red top with a green jacket, navy blue jeans and a blue and yellow beanie. “It’s not my fault, I was programmed to steal all the colour in the world” he said.
“ You’re not a human?”
“ No, but I wish to be”
“ Look, you can turn this around, you’ll be a hero!”
“ But my master told me to do this, he said if I take all the colour in the world he’ll make me a human. I was originally programmed to help people”
“ Come on, do what you were originally made to do. Help me.”
Suddenly, a rainbow spark flashed from his hands then… BANG!!! My brown hair complimented my dress as I was magically returned to my house with a big grin on my face.
