Chapter One Magoo
THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. “ Dorothy no running in the house dear!” Said Dorothy’s exasperated mother. “ Sorry mother it’s just I am very excited as it is hunting day!”
THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. “ Dorothy please!” But she was already out of the door.
“ Lottie. Lottie i’m here!” Cried Dorothy as she entered the stable. “ Oh hullo Ben” She said enthusiastically. “I was just heading down to see Lottie.” Suddenly a cherry bay head poked over the stable door. “Lottie!” She cried. “Oh Ben she’s hurt!” Ben shuffled over as fast as he could.
“Aha lassie.” Said Ben ten minutes later. “ Therin’ lies the problem milady, there was a stone in her hoof.” He continued. “Yes but will she be fit to ride Ben.” She said. “Arr she should be good, she’s a tough-un.” Ben replied. “Oh well just in case I shall ride Magoo.” Dorothy said rather snootily. “Very well milady I shall tack him up.”
Magoo was a tall lanky chestnut of a hunter. He could clear a metre fifty easy. The only problem was his temper. He was mister Theaman’s horse and was considered an ill ride for a lady. He had thrown mister Theaman and landed him in infirmary with a broken collar bone.
“ Now ma’am I know it ain’t any o my business but I don’t think you should ride him right now after what happened to your father.” Cautioned Ben.
“My father is an ignorant fool who wouldn’t know the back end of the horse from the front.”
Dorothy replied icily. “ As you wish milady.” Said Ben with a bow. That Dorothy’s got guts, I recon the same her father's an old know-it-all, who doesn't know nothin’. Thought Ben.
